The area that "Penny Farthing" cottage is positioned on is the Route of Richard the Lion Heart, which can be followed easily. There are also at least three very lovely Chateaux all within approximately 5 to 6 kilometres of the cottage. The best is called Chateaux Montbrun which is about 3 kilometres from Negrelat and is well worth visiting, being a superb setting and with a pub/restaurant right by it's entrance.
The area has a good selection of restaurants of varying food types and options from basic French to full International cooking of a very high calibre.
We are within one hour's drive of the Infamous Orador sur Glaine, where during the last war, the German Army massacred virtually the entire village, believing it to be part of the resistance. The French have left the burnt out remains of everything exactly as it as following this massacre, as a reminder and monument for the future. It is very moving and well worth a visit!!
We are only about 45 minutes to one hour from The Dordogne and beautiful towns such as Brantome and villages such as Saint Jean de Cole, one of the prettiest villages in the entire France and well worth visiting. The position is ideal for people who are looking for somewhere fo buy for themselves in the area and who need a base from which to work.
The old part of Limoges is also worth visiting and is full of charm and some beautiful buildings. If you are interested in walking around the Chateaux, there are a large number of these within a half hour to one hour drive of the house, many of these having large amounts of antique furniture on display, making a great day out and reason to relax at Penny Farthing in the evening with a glass of wine in your hands, on the deck before going out for dinner at one of the nearby restaurants.
A list of these restaurants will be given to you at the time of booking.

The Penny Farthing Cottage>>>>
The position is ideal for people who are looking for somewhere fo buy for themselves in the area and who need a base from which to work. There is very little for children to do, but ideal for relaxation for the older person.
This property which is affectionately called "Penny Farthing" has been completely renovated and is as new in all aspects and containing the following accommodation:
There is a sitting room, with wood burner which leads through to a big kitchen/dining room, all being open planned. The kitchen is fully equipped and as with everything else, all items are new, such as electrical units, crockery and cutlery.
Leading off the kitchen dining area there are patio doors leading onto a wooden deck area, looking over the garden and countryside and placed perfectly for taking advantage of the late afternoon sun setting.
There is a utility room that leads off the dining area, this includes a downstairs toilet and a door out to the garden.
Off the sitting room there is a staircase leading up to two "en suite" bedrooms, both having baths and a shower.
Attached to the house is a barn and some small sheds, together with an area to park cars, which belongs to the house.
There is a BBQ for the use of our guests.

We also own a superb property consisting of three lakes and a cabin which is available by arrangement, at no extra costs for a different and quiet afternoon and BBQ.
The cabin is quite large and has a covered veranda, built of rendered stone with French orange pan tiles on the roof. There is no electricity and no running mains water, although we use the spring water which is permanently running into the top lake. There are tables and comfortable chairs and a big barbecue.
Sitting on the veranda and looking out at the lakes in the middle of the French countryside with a glass of French wine in your hand and without another house in sight is an experience that takes you back to before modern living and is in our opinion something every different and special. There is a small boat at the lakes which is not available for use, as our insurance does not permit us to cover it's use.

If flying to the house, we are about 1 to 1.5 hours drive from Limoges Airport and it is necessary to have a car when staying at Penny Farthing. The directions are easy to follow and take one accross some very lovely French countryside, throught Aix sur Vienne, Gorre and Cussac, before arriving at Negrelat. If driving, we are almost exactly 5 hours from St Malo, 6 hours from Caen or Le Harvre. We find that St Malo is the better route and a very easy drive, as the motorways are very quiet!!
A detailed set of directions for any of these various routes and options would be supplied when booking your stay at Negrelat.
